What certifications does Anthropic offer? Four proctored exams, all delivered by Pearson VUE and booked through Anthropic's partner channel: the Associate (CCAO-F), the Developer (CCDV-F), the Architect – Foundations (CCAR-F) and the Architect – Professional (CCAR-P). They cost $99 to $175 per attempt, last 12 months, and are open only to people at organisations in the Claude Partner Network.

Third-party pages disagree on names and fees, so this guide sticks to Anthropic's own exam guides and Pearson VUE's listing wherever possible, and says so where a figure comes from someone else. You'll also see the Architect exam called "CCA-F" online. Pearson VUE lists it as CCAR-F.

Which Claude certification should I take first?

Pick by the job you do, not by which exam sounds most senior:

You don't write code, but you use or advise on Claude at workStart with the Associate exam (CCAO-F).
You build applications or agents on the Claude APITake the Developer exam (CCDV-F).
You design Claude systems for clients or other teamsTake Architect – Foundations (CCAR-F), then Professional (CCAR-P) once you have 3+ years in systems architecture.
You need to show your engineers can use Claude Code in your repositoriesNone of the four tests that directly. Look at a repository-based assessment instead (see below).
The Sthuthi guide sorts work samples by business use, application building, system design and observed practice.

The four exams in more detail

Claude Certified Associate – Foundations (CCAO-F)

The entry point, and the only one aimed at people who don't build software. Prep providers describe its domains as prompting and task execution, evaluating and validating output, product and model selection, workflow integration, configuration and knowledge management, governance and responsible use, and troubleshooting. It's the cheapest of the four at $99.

Claude Certified Developer – Foundations (CCDV-F)

For engineers who build on the Claude API. According to Anthropic's exam guide, it has 53 items across eight weighted domains, led by Applications and Integration at 33.1%. Only 3.1% is about Claude Code specifically. Recommended experience is one to five years of software engineering and six months with Claude or a comparable LLM. Our full CCDV-F guide covers the domains, prep and what it doesn't test.

Claude Certified Architect – Foundations (CCAR-F)

The original exam, launched with the Claude Partner Network in March 2026. Anthropic's guide describes five domains: agentic architecture and orchestration (27%), Claude Code configuration and workflows (20%), prompt engineering and structured output (20%), tool design and MCP integration (18%), and context management and reliability (15%). Questions are grouped into realistic scenarios, four drawn at random from a bank of six. See our Claude Certified Architect guide for whether it's worth it.

Claude Certified Architect – Professional (CCAR-P)

The advanced track. Anthropic's Professional exam guide lists 63 items across seven domains, led by Integration (19%) and Solution Design and Architecture (17%), with separate domains for governance and risk and for stakeholder communication. It recommends 3+ years in systems architecture or platform engineering and 6+ months with Claude or comparable LLM systems in production, but there are no mandatory prerequisites.

  • Discounts: Anthropic's guides say the price at checkout reflects any discount for your partner tier. Anthropic doesn't publish the tier discounts.
  • Retakes: according to Pearson VUE, up to four attempts per exam in a rolling 12 months, with waits of 14, 30 and 90 days after the first, second and third failed attempts. Every retake costs the full fee.
  • Missed appointments: late cancellations and no-shows forfeit the fee.
  • Renewal: credentials last 12 months. Anthropic's guides describe a free, non-proctored renewal assessment if you renew on time; a lapsed credential means sitting the full exam again.
  • India and other countries: Anthropic lists fees in US dollars. Check the price at checkout for your location.

Can anyone take the Claude exams?

No. Pearson VUE's Anthropic page says certification "is open to organizations in the Claude Partner Network", with registration through the Anthropic Partner Academy. Joining is free: Anthropic's launch announcement says any organisation "bringing Claude to market" can apply. That covers consultancies, systems integrators and agencies. A company using Claude Code on its own products usually isn't the intended member, which is why most engineering teams can't book these exams today.

Are Claude certifications worth it?

For partners, yes: they're the official credentials, they count towards Anthropic's partner programme, and the Architect exams in particular test real design judgment through scenarios. For an individual engineer outside the network, the question is moot because you can't book them.

For a company that wants proof its own engineers use Claude Code well, they answer a different question. They're knowledge exams about the Claude platform. None of them watches someone direct Claude Code in your repository and review the diff it produces. If that's what you need, look at an independent Claude Code certification built around a proctored repository task, or read is there a Claude Code certification? for the wider picture.

Knowledge-exam questions sit beside repository diffs, tests and explanations as distinct evidence.
