Start with what's free

Anthropic's Claude Code 101 course covers what Claude Code is, how it works, installing it, the explore-plan-code-commit workflow, context management, code review, CLAUDE.md, subagents, skills, MCP and hooks, ending with a quiz. It's free and assumes basic comfort with a code editor and the command line. Claude Code in Action, also free, suits students who already use the tool and want longer, more automated workflows.

Courses that add a certificate or credit

Coursera's Claude Code course from Vanderbilt University takes about five hours, includes two graded assignments and offers a shareable certificate. The work needs a paid Claude Code subscription. The Anthropic and CodePath partnership brings Claude Code into AI engineering courses for more than 20,000 students at community colleges, state schools and HBCUs, and Howard University offers a redesigned course for academic credit. Those routes depend on whether a student's college takes part.

Anthropic's exams

Anthropic's CCDV-F exam is official, but registration is open to organisations in the Claude Partner Network, so a student can't simply book it. If their college or employer is a partner, it's worth asking.

Where Sthuthi's student programme fits

Our Foundations programme is sold to colleges and universities for a batch of students. It teaches entry-level task framing, diff review and guardrails, and ends in a lighter, scenario-based assessed task so a whole batch can go through it. The result is an independent credential with a verifiable ID. It's not an Anthropic credential, it doesn't guarantee a job, and our cohorts so far have been with companies, so we're looking for first institutions to run a pilot batch with.

Who each option is best for

An individual student

  • Anthropic's free courses
  • Coursera if they want a certificate

A student at a CodePath partner college

  • CodePath's Claude Code-based courses

A placement cell or department

  • An assessed batch programme such as ours, ideally alongside a real project

What to know about us before you compare

  • Our credential is independent. Anthropic does not issue or endorse it, and it does not count toward Anthropic partner tiers.
  • We quote per cohort and don't publish a price list or pass rates.
  • We are new. Our cohorts so far are with companies, not yet with colleges.
